Black Widow, Vol. 1: The Finely Woven Thread by Nathan Edmondson

4.0

I went into this knowing Black Widow only from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and this felt really easy to jump into. The main draw for me was the art but I can’t help but be intrigued by the (until recently) only woman on the Avengers. Noto’s art is very digital but so skillful. The shapes and brushstrokes are obviously from Photoshop and a Wacom tablet but unlike anything that I could do, they are made with a skilled hand. It feels like he’s sculpting with the digital paint. It sets a tone of minimalistic yet precise espionage.

I really enjoyed the pacing in this. It reminds me of Hawkeye in a way, perhaps because this is supposed to be her everyday life even though it seems quite similar to her work-life that we see in the movies. There are no wisecracks like Hawkeye but the panels don’t feel overcrowded with words and action similar to Hawkeye.

I’ll definitely read more.
