This book is beautifully written but I hardly know how many stars to give it. The last third or so can’t hold a candle to the preceding chapters and this is why I am giving it only three stars. The last two pages of the book are deeply touching.

While the first part is lyrical and absorbing and the characters are compelling, there are a number of unresolved actions in the last part that left me up satisfied. The story of a father and his two children is narrated by the younger child, Daniel, who draws you deeply into the life of his family.
