Dom and Alessandra have been married for ten years, but she finally decides to claim more for herself and leave him…she just doesn’t expect that he will refuse to let her go.

I really like Ana Huang as an author, but unfortunately this one just didn’t have the same spark for me that her books usually have. I thought Dom and Ale’s relationship was really lovely, and the ending was very sweet, but I was pretty bored for most of the book itself.

I also felt like there was no real tension here—I needed something more from the plot that just wasn’t delivered. I enjoy an action/suspense element, but I thought the one here came out of left field, and the character’s reactions to it didn’t feel particularly fitting.

I’ll continue reading this series (and am excited for KING OF SLOTH based on the tropes!) but this one was an unfortunate miss for me.

CW: Gun violence; mentions of child abuse
