Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Parts One and Two by John Tiffany

2.0

3.5/5

This is a play script and it should be rated as such. I would also like to note that I found the epilogue of Deathly Hallows unrealistic and stupid enough that I've pretended for 9 years that it didn't exist, because otherwise it would have ruined the entire book for me.

The Cursed Child makes the epilogue acceptable and for that alone it deserves 4 stars. Harry's life is not perfect, despite the glossy picture painted at the end of Hallows. He's not doing a great job at being a parent, he's neglecting his duties at work and he is generally just like he was as a teenager, but older - this is not a bad thing. He is true to his character, and the way his experiences have shaped him. He is, still, pretty fucked up.

There are bits that bother me, and make me cringe a little, when it comes to the plot and the behaviour and speech of Albus and Scorpius, but overall it's good and I'm excited to see the play in November. I expect that it will be much better on stage.
