Hamlet by William Shakespeare

Hamlet was my choice of Shakespeare to read in April. I had never managed to get to it before and as it was reputed to be one of his most powerful tragedies I really hoped I would like it!
Shakespeare explores the dark side of human nature in this play and I do love unsettling topics in stories and with a ghost, death, revenge and murder it was certainly the one for me!
I loved how dramatic Hamlet as a character was and how crazy he came across. Some of his monologues were great poetry. He was very cruel to Ophelia, especially when he was meant to have loved her. . . But I can see why this play is said to have such iconic characters now! It also has the famous quote ‘to be or not to be, that is the question’.
I did find some of the dialogue quite heavy at times and my brain hurt so I do what I always do and I went to CliffsNotes online and the quick summaries on there help me when it gets a bit confusing! It honestly is a life saver with Shakespeare at times 😆
But I think this is up there with one of my favourite Shakespeare’s now. It was really entertaining and so much happens! I really do think this would be one of the best Shakespeare plays to go and watch so maybe I will go one day!
