Tamarack County by William Kent Krueger
4.0

Another winner in the Cork O'Connor series. This time there is something dark and menacing that seems to be stalking some of the people closest to Cork or to people connected with those close to him. Annie is back and seems to be having a crisis (I figured out what she must have been going through before it was revealed), and Stephen has a girlfriend. Not unusually, they are in the middle of winter with snowstorms galore, and bodies start to pile up, although in this case, it begins with the gruesome death of a dog. For those of you for whom this might be a trigger, just be warned. That said, things in this book are never gratuitous and it always fits in with the larger narrative. With Annie having her crisis, and Stephen having struggles of his own, the author once again handles the many spiritual threads of this universe very skillfully and I'm left in awe. This is absolutely one of my favorite detective series and I am looking forward to continuing with my journey.
