How Not to Get Shot: And Other Advice From White People by Doug Moe, D.L. Hughley

5.0

Very funny, very painful, very true. This is the perfect use of humor to address a horrific state of affairs. Hughley is able to tell truths in a way that expresses his clear anger and frustration with race relations while causing both laughter and deep thought. My only qualm about the contents of the book is that he made very short and unnecessary statements about how LGBT+ people have been treated throughout history and in the present and forgot two things: many LGBT+ people are also people of color, and that LGBT+ people have been jailed, killed, scapegoated, and terrorized by police and society at large just for being who they are.
