I love having a book that’s light and sweet, even when it tackles some heavy topics. Emmy knew what she wanted, and boy, she got it (that was a So High School reference). She understood her limits and fought for her health and safety within her relationships. There was some beautiful development in her character, and I loved seeing her on the page. Sometimes all you need is an MMC who is a kind and gentle soul, and Hayes delivers just that. He can face all things in his life with a smile and grace. It was lovely to see him help his brother and face the consequences of someone else’s mistakes, just because he loves him, even if I think it was not his responsibility. One thing I have learned, and what makes me love books so much, is how each individual has a unique background and how they’ll act based on that, which made me learn a lot about myself. I feel like Ki Stephens' books can portray the characters' issues in such an interesting way that it feels personal. You can see their flaws and their growth, and you fall in love with them. So this one will be added as one of my comfort reads for sure. The only issue I have with this book is that the ending felt a bit rushed for my liking, but that’s just personal preference.
