A River Enchanted
by Rebecca Ross
adventurous
mysterious
slow-paced
Loveable characters:
Complicated
I think some people expressed this already but despite a pleasant and flowery prose, there just wasn't enough character development.
Take for exampleTorin's muteness leading to his personal growth : while a great concept, I felt that I'd barely turned 10 pages and the whole thing was already resolved.
And I think that was my main problem with it : this book was simultaneously slow-paced and rushed? So much so I found myself more than once wishing the characters' plights were delivered better and explored more in depth so that I could fully care for the characters and enjoy that sweet emotional pay-off. Alas, because of this 'rushed' aspect the characters read bizarrely removed from their own situations.
In any case I shall be reading book two... But first, me thinks a palate cleanser is in order!
