As light a narrative as the fabric that it uses as a metaphor, this is a summer breeze of a read. It demands nothing, even as it captivates you into its narrative. It is not, however, a finished book. If anything, a sketch - and perhaps that's exactly what it wants to be.

Gallimard's audio edition, with Jacques Bonnaffé's casual reading and the occasional use of a little flute interlude, does this book justice in presenting its tone and character.
