Swann's Way
by Marcel Proust
I know I'm supposed to like Proust, but I'm stuck at around page 40. Maybe if I can get past the childhood of this overly sensitive mamma's boy growing up in a family of insufferable characters (especially Grandma), I can start to actually enjoy the writing. There are some really lovely turns of phrase in this translation, but as I said, just too affected and insufferable. This book holds the dubious distinction of annoying me so much that I'm somewhat agitated while at the same time putting me to sleep. For now, I'm not going to waste my time. There are too many other great books that I haven't read yet. Maybe I'll come back to it.
