I really enjoyed this read, I like the dune type sci-fi of sword fighting being valid again because of shield tech

or being dropped into a low tech environment

 

And our main character also has dune type goals

there were a couple of things that dragged my score down from a 5

Wife fridging as motivation is a pretty overdone trope at this point

the beginning in the mines and the rest of the book felt very disjointed, almost like they were different books from each other (although I guess maybe that’s the point?)
