The Ivies
by Alexa Donne
Title: The Ivies
Author: Alexa Donne
Format: Audiobook
Quick Take: A ruthless band of prep-school elites competing for admission into the Ivy League colleges of their dreams disrupt class ranks, club leaderships and academic competitions before one of them resorts to more deadly measures.
Thoughts: Well that was a ride! Who knew college admissions was such a cutthroat event! This book reminds me of the recent college admission scandal which the book kinda mentions but of course is more scandalized and sensationalized because this is a fiction ya novel.
I have never simultaneously hated and rooted for a lead character as much as I did with Olivia. I was hoping that she would come out, not quite on top because she was willing to overlook what Avery and the other girls were doing because she benefitted as well, but with less of the fallout because she was the least privileged of all the characters. There were so many times when I wanted to reach in the book and just slap her and say "Girl, stand up!" because the amount of stuff she took, just to be one of "The Ivies" was ridiculous. Despite the horrible characters, the plot and the mystery and the double/triple life of the victim was perfectly done. I legit went back and forth on who I thought did it and that's the mark of a good mystery to me lol.
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
