Spellslinger by Sebastien de Castell
5.0

I started this book after reading a recommendation for light fantasy books. The mood might have been light because of the humor and it ain't no Game of Thrones, and I never felt like all would be over for the characters even with all the shit flung at them constantly, but the society is so unfair and most of the minor characters such scum that I'm not sure if I'd say it's light.

Things I liked were:
The pace. It was a fast page-turner.
The characters. I really liked the main character, Fenris, and Reichis.
Humor. Humor in YA is a hit or miss for me, and it was a hit for me here.
The tattoos on the arm.
The messages of the book.
The main character having to use his smarts to beat magic, especially because magic users over rely on its powers.
