Amelia and Eleanor Go for a Ride by Pam Muñoz Ryan

5.0

A lovely book that introduces young readers to two heroines of the twentieth century and a little known adventure the women shared. While some liberties are taken with the night's actual events in the name of storytelling, the attention to period detail is commendable. Selznick reproduced the wallpapers and china patterns used in the White House at the time! In fact, the illustrations are so detailed, they would merit a second appreciation on their own, apart from the (wonderful) narrative. Ask children what they can find. Just one example, the first line of the book is hidden somewhere in the illustrations. Can you find it?
