Cozy fantasy with a dash of romance is my new favourite sub genre. Assistant to the Villain was exactly what I wanted to read. We meet Evie Sage’s world is completely altered when walking through the forest when she stumbles into a high chase between the King’s guards and The Villain. A mishap turns into a job offer and desperate for employment, Evie accepts the position as the assistant to The Villain. As she’s getting used to the severed heads displayed from the ceiling and the occasional dungeon screams, she’s also developing a crush on her employer. Who knew evil looked so sweet.

Evie is my new favourite female protagonist! I just loved her quirky personality and the way her thought process worked. The banter between her and The Villain was *chefs kiss* and the rivalry between Becky in HR and Evie was so much fun. All the characters were so loveable. Plot line was great, it even deterred me so it wasn’t predictable for me. I also didn’t realize it was book 1 so imagine my surprise at the ending. A solid ending, I loved it.

Thank you to @raincoastbooks for sending me a copy in exchange for a review, I loved it and can’t wait for the next in the series, 5✨!
