meredithpraed 's review for:
Harley Merlin and the Cult of Eris
by Bella Forrest
How many POVs are we going to get in this series?
Seeing things from Finch's POV just slowed the book down, removed the "will he won't he betray Harley" aspect, and interrupted the pace. While it worked sometimes, I think I'd rather have had (for this whole series, actually) each book from Harley's POV exclusively. The secondary POVs just seem to be a way for the author to go 'ohmygosh how amazing' Harley is.
I mean, yeah, she's pretty cool - we don't need telling. Also, having read six of these books now in a row without breaks, they're becoming pretty formulaic.
I assume this will be the MO until book 10 (or 20? God, I hope not), but hopefully the next instalment will divert from what's becoming a pretty predictable blueprint and surprise me. We need a few more resolutions tied off because it's just getting annoying. That said, I'm still interested in the overall plot.
Oh, and it's STILL not Arthurian.
