Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie

4.0

Barrie really understands children. At times sweet and unassuming, though often selfish and "heartless," his depictions are spot on. Though promoted as a children's book, there are quite a few complex themes and characters. For example, Peter Pan is the titular character and yet he actively seeks to slaughter pirates (who are the Bad Guys and are written to deserve such punishment, but still) and often forgets about his dearest friends.

Would have given this 5 stars for PETER AND WENDY alone, but I thought parts of PETER PAN IN KENSINGTON GARDENS were rather irritating, what with the narrator going on and on in a tedious, stream of consciousness fashion about the layout of the gardens.
