Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz

4 Stars!
I have been meaning to get around to this one FOREVER. Having just finished off Chris Ryan’s Agent 21 series, I thought that this would be the perfect place to go next. I have of course seen the film (I know not to judge the book by its film, but then again, Stormbreaker was always a guilty pleasure film for me), but wanted to get around to the book eventually.
I’m really glad that I did - it was really interesting to see where the two diverged, which, to be fair, wasn’t too much. I feel like if I’d read the book first, then the film might’ve felt a little bit lacking, but this way around, I can sort of think of them as separate entities.
So, as for the actual book itself - I thought that it was a great little short read, though I’m aware that the books get longer as the series progresses. I thought that Alex was a really interesting character and did the best that he could given his time and resources.
To be honest, I would have liked to have seen a bit more of Sayle during the book, but what we did see of him was tense. I’m also incredibly interested in Gregorivitch as a character, and hope that he pops up later in the series. Another thing that I feel could be interesting in the next few books is the actual role that MI6 will play in Alex’s life and how it will develop over time.
Overall: A fun and action-packed spy story with plenty of intrigue.
