This book begins to swap some of the laugh-out-loud humor and lighthearted adventure for some emotional depth and real stakes.  I found the trade off to be pleasant, natural, and appropriate.

Riordan is fully committing to a greater narrative for Percy beyond the scope of this book. It never get like Riordan sacrificed this books integrity for the sake of the larger narrative. This book has its own emotional and narrative beats while still contributing to the larger narrative of Percy Jackson.

I would love to see these books continue to serve high-stakes action with emotional beats that resonate for Percy and myself. I would love to see the series continue to balance the individual books with the overall narrative. Much love for this book and what Riordan manages to accomplish.
