Tarzan of the Apes by Edgar Rice Burroughs
3.0
I think I had too high hopes while reading this one. As in the story would have been at a more similar level to the Junglebook(s) which I just ended up loving and which I thought was better than the adaptations.
I would say this is better than the original Sleepy Hollow, which I felt was a huge let down compared to all the adaptations to the point were it just felt somewhat silly to me! This is alright, but again I think the various adaptations of Tarzan are better than the original story. The writing/speed is fine but there are just things the adaptations did better. Like when it comes to his gorilla family, how he learned a language and so on. It makes no sense to me how you can read/understand a language when you have never been exposed to it by someone/something. A linguistic may be allowed to school me on this, because I really can't see how you can learn and grasp something as complex as a language without exposure from a relevant source. Especially when we're talking about an infant and not young kid having had some sort of limited exposure early on.
The understanding of the animals makes so much more sense than he's capable of reading and writing and understanding what's what.
If I'll give some of the other stories in the series a shot in the future I have no idea.
That said I'm glad I read the original story regardless.
