for a book that centres around such a heavy, all-consuming theme, the writing style and structure does a mesmerising job at creating suspense in the most entrancing, yet delightfully mundane way. the narration is incredibly interesting; completely mirroring the feelings and yearnings of the reader whilst also giving you some insight into the young male gaze and their ill-informed infatuation of the Lisbon girls. i will never, ever forget reading that last scene in chapter four.
