Looking for Alibrandi
by Melina Marchetta
Once you get past that jarring sensation of being stuck inside the head of a teenager this really is a sweet little book that very accurately captures the teenage experience. My husband is, like Josie, a second generation Australian with Italian grandparents. I recognised some of her experiences through that lens. I read this very fast as despite her melodrama, Josie is a person you really root for. I loved her complicated relationship with Nonna and her close bond with her mother. Michael also turned out to be a lovely surprise. Was definitely not a fan of Jacob, but even that rang true of teenage drama.
