Just Another Missing Person by Gillian McAllister
3.0
3 stars -- a really interesting premise that got lost in itself and left me with an overall "missed opportunities" feeling by the end.
i found DCI Day to be an interesting character, very clearly struggling with her love for her family and her belief in justice. one of the better parts of this book was her narrative and an exploration of her actions through her own justification; the relationship between her, Genevieve, and Art as a family unit was nicely crafted overall.
disappointing ending and "twist" with Sadie. i just couldn't get into the suspension of disbelief that one person could craft an entire master scheme against all of the police, and then have DCI Day completely validated, relationships mended, and everyone together at the end of the day. perhaps if there were more consequences or a bittersweet ending i would have rated the overall story higher.
