Beach Read by Emily Henry
4.0
I really enjoy Emily Henry’s writing. She manages to take broken people who clearly have issues and make me like them, and she does so in a humorous way. I read some of the 1-star reviews and while I agree with some of the things they are saying, I think those people miss the whole point of a book like this. For me, her books are a departure from the more serious books I read, yet I feel like her characters are people I could know and like. I also feel the chemistry she tries to create between her characters, with a bit of the angst thrown in for good measure.
I enjoyed this book. If you grow up thinking your parents have the perfect life and you end up finding out otherwise, it could have an effect on everything you think about life. I like that January and Gus’s humorous back and forth love and angst settle on the idea of just focusing on being happy for now. Really, that’s all any of can do because you never know what life is going to throw at you, so it’s a pretty good theme for a book.
This is my 2nd Emily Henry book, and I’m looking forward to more. I’m wondering, does she always write about authors?
