Shrill by Lindy West

5.0

Okay, so.... this book started off by making me laugh. It was a great intro into her character, especially for someone who didn't know a thing about Lindy West when I started reading the book. As I continued, the content became more and more difficult to read. Not because it was horribly written, but because it was written so well about topics that most people do not like to discuss. Abortion, rape culture, misogyny, being fat.... All of the feelings that surround putting yourself out there so vividly when the world makes you believe that you should hide yourself away. That somehow you are less because you're a woman, because you're fat, because you had an abortion, because you are you. Lindy West gave a voice to all the fat girls that feel just as she does, but are still too afraid to speak up, knowing the the kind of backlash she receives on a daily basis is waiting for us too.
