Fling by J.F. Murray
3.0

What do you consider infidelity? What would you do if you discovered your partner had joined a tinder-style hook-up app?

Tara and Colin’s marriage is strained - after several failed IVF attempts, it appears the spark has gone. Both are convinced to try out “Fling,” the new app that allows individuals to meet for no-strings sexual encounters with strangers without the other knowing.

Although there are many humorous scenes within this modern tale, there are sensitive moments highlighting the strain that trying to conceive can put on a relationship and that couples should never feel ashamed to ask for help.

The ending was deflating and wasn’t really where I expected this to go. Perhaps because of the genre of this book, it was destined to only end in one way…but after the personal journeys that both characters have taken, it just didn’t seem to “fit.” (If that’s the correct word to use?!) Maybe I’m overthinking it!

This read does offer a lot to think about; where our boundaries lay within a relationship? Can a relationship indeed survive without trust, honesty and communication? Does the use of modern technology count as being unfaithful? There are plenty of elements to discuss, making this an ideal book club read!

I would love to hear everyone’s opinion on this one - pick up a copy this week, make a cuppa and let’s chat!

Thank you, NetGalley and Pan Macmillan, for a gifted copy of this book.
