Finding Chika by Mitch Albom

3.0

So this is one is tricky to rate. I loved Chika and her joy and her humour - she sounds like an incredible little girl, and listening to her clips in the audiobook couldn’t help but make you smile through tears. However, I hated that she was not given a choice in her treatment, or stopping her treatment. Yes, she was only 7. But that is old enough to understand do you want to keep fighting or are you done? Because the people making these decisions were not her parents, and clearly religion played a huge role in the decisions made, and I got the distinct impression here that faith overruled science when it came to some of these treatments. Which is fine if you’re making them for yourself, not a 7-year old from another country under your guardianship. That didn’t sit right. So beautifully told story about a beautiful girl gets 3 stars, motivation behind all of this gets 0 stars.
