Thank goodness this was better than I was expecting!
I didn't enjoy the beginning of this book. Right off the bat we have a protagonist that kills someone for their own selfish reasons— this did not make me like her. I was also worried that there was a lot of foreshadowing of a potential love triangle and that just didn't impress me at all.
Luckily, the protagonist redeemed herself throughout the book and the love triangle dissolved. I loved the direction the author took plot wise in this book and I am really looking forward to reading the sequel.
This is better than [b:Red Queen|22328546|Red Queen (Red Queen, #1)|Victoria Aveyard|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1449778912s/22328546.jpg|25037051] but not as amazing as [b:Throne of Glass|7896527|Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1)|Sarah J. Maas|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1335819760s/7896527.jpg|11138426]. If you liked either of those I would recommend you pick this one up.

Spoiler
I will say that I feel like killing him was a little bit drastic, actually, there was a lot of death in this book that just didn't affect me.This is better than [b:Red Queen|22328546|Red Queen (Red Queen, #1)|Victoria Aveyard|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1449778912s/22328546.jpg|25037051] but not as amazing as [b:Throne of Glass|7896527|Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1)|Sarah J.
