Desire and the Deep Blue Sea by Olivia Dade

4.0

This was a quick and fun read! Librarian Callie is desperate - she’s been looking forward to a much needed vacation and time in the Caribbean. She’s getting to take this vacation because she’s all set to be on an episode of HATV’s show Love Match - where couples try out 3 different resorts on camera and then choose one to stay at for the rest of the trip.

However - one week before her trip, Callie and her boyfriend break up. She can’t go alone! The whole point of the show is about couples resorts. And she can’t bear the thought of missing out on this trip she’s been looking forward to but couldn’t afford on her own. Somehow she finds herself blurting out that she actually has a new boyfriend - Thomas, the coworker she can’t stand. Thomas agrees to go along with the fake relationship/trip and they’re off!

In their first on camera interview, Thomas is asked about what attracted him to Callie. He finished his answer by saying:

“In summation, everything about her attracted me. She’s energetic and witty and kind to everyone, unless they try to return books stained by cat urine. She’s frighteningly intelligent and competent. And of course, she’s obviously beautiful. So who wouldn’t be attracted to her? There are probably people in the future desperately trying to invent time travel so they can come back to the twenty-first century and meet her.”

Swoon. At that point - Callie realizes maybe this isn’t just pretend for Thomas and she’s not sure how she feels about that.

There were moments like this one that I absolutely adored. However there were also times that I think Thomas was just a little *too* beta for me. This was also a short read and there were parts I wish went a little deeper. I’ll definitely be reading the next in this series though! This is only my second Olivia Dade book and I want to read all the rest!!
