I Wanted to be Close to You by Katie Oliver

5.0

I thought when I started this one I wasn't going to gel with it - I sometimes find it hard to engage with really weird fiction, especially when it's short stories because there's no time to really pick up on what the author is doing. But after a couple of stories I felt really pulled in emotionally, as if I'd harmonised with the atmosphere that Oliver was trying to create. Some of these stories are definitely extremely creepy but in a way that I didn't find overpowering. Definitely looking forward to Oliver's next collection!
