Underneath the Sycamore Tree is a nice interpretation of what life with lupus can be like for a young woman. While the symptoms are not accurate, the feelings of isolation and interactions with others are spot on. The unusual relationship between Em and her step brother makes this sad novel unique and can be exclusionary for some readers. The author does a wonderful job conveying Emery and Kaiden's emotions, the other characters all fall flat.
