Funny Story by Emily Henry

3.0

i was pretty much waiting all yr for this book to stop and it kind of came at the perfect time.

nothing hits as well as emily henry when you’re PMSing, so i think i need to reread when i am more rational-minded. nonetheless, emily henry always produces absolute hits or absolute misses, and this certainly was a hit. henry’s writing is nothing new or interesting, but is so easy to fall into that you don’t really care. i know
people often get disappointed by her work because her work is marketed to be ‘subverting the genre’, and at times it does feel like it’s trying too hard to be ‘not like other romances’ and more substancial in subject matter. this expectation should be removed, bc if you’re just reading for the sake of reading, it works, it really works.

this is still very much the cliche girl finding herself after a break up kind of situation. but the subject matter and things discussed in the book … yeah . yeah . ir really got to me. this is probably the most i’ve ever cried to a romance, but then again i am pmsing.

i loved the main couple, however i wasn’t really attached to them? i don’t know what happened there - i weirdly loved all the other side characters??

also . this should definitely be made into a limited series or a romcom. it literally reads like one in such a way it feels like you’re listening to a film.

all in all, i should reread when my hormones are more balanced but for the state i’m in, i had a good but teary time.
