Obviously outstanding. I can't believe it took me so long to get around to this!  I'm in love. The beginning was SO shocking, but it also immediately set our heroine up as a powerful force, even if she didn't yet realize it about herself. And her character arc superb.  Celie's and Nettie's correspondence was an especially striking display of Alice Walker's command over voice. Not only the obvious grammatical differences, but the cadence and word choices were so clear and distinct. She is truly a master!
