Any Way the Wind Blows
by Rainbow Rowell
TW: Biphobia, sexual themes
I adore Simon, Baz, Penelope and the rest of the gang. But dear God, Rainbow Rowell seems unfocused in this... The plot seems like one the characters could walk away from (though their personalities and values keep them), which makes it seem more like a fanfiction from a newer writer. It's very apparent that this wasn't planned to be 3 books, because the third one seems very anticlimatic and leaves a lot of questions unanswered...
There's a lot of setup to some really exciting scenes, but we never get them. This is fanfiction fuel at its finest, but although I love fanfiction, I don't think that's a compliment in this case...
Also, there's the underlying bierasure. Who compares bisexuality to a midlife crisis? Why is bisexuality such a ludicris idea in this book?
I liked the book, I did. But I really hope for a 4th book, because this would be quite a disappointing ending for the Simon Snow series...
