Gunmetal Magic by Ilona Andrews
4.0
So, I enjoyed the first 60% of this. It was all heated and angry and matey (I will not cringe at the use of mate - though it's not so bad in this series, Ilona Andrews makes it digestible).
What I loved was seeing Andrea and Raphael's story! Looked forward to this one after the last few Kate Daniels' books!
But man, I wanted to smack Raphael for his first assholish move, then I wanted to smack Andrea for being stubborn.
And yet I can't because they both came from fair places, both were hurting, and both still very much in love with the other.
I was kind of annoyed at Alpha Raphael. He was too alpha-ry for me. He seemed a lot less alpha-ry in the other books, but that might just be because we didn't see him as often. He's also not as alpha asshole as Curran.
Andrea was her own person of course, but for a bit I got her a little confused with Kate - my bad!
But overall, this was a great book for these two. I just kind of got disinterested in the Egyptian god plot. Which sucks, because it was interesting! The only problem was that Andrea and Raphael resolved their issues much earlier, when I suppose I expected it to carry until the end of the book? But nonetheless, this was a fun-ass read.
My favourite parts?
Ascanio's interactions with Andrea, he's actually much cuter in this one. He was a little sh** in the previous book (and he grew too of course). But in this one, it's like a puppy half the time, it's kind of adorable.
My other favourite part was Roman, the black volhv. He was such a teasing contrast to apha-ry Raphael in this book. I totally didn't expect for him to turn up, but he was really fun. Especially him and that bone staff!
