no five stars because i have a few things:
1) ollie(they/them) is afab and it kind of defines their non-binary identity which annoys me because it pushes the idea of that being non-binary you must be afab.
2) was not expecting to have two part where one is from essie’s and the other is from ollie’s. something clearer would have been nice.
3) continued with ollie’s identity- it forces essie to find her sexuality when fun fact straight people could date a non-binary person.
4) another thought on ollie’s identity. they didn’t even really hide that they’re afab. like essie is in the girls locker and is like wait that’s ollie. so:/ wish there was mystery like there is/was with annabella(who has an amazing name)
i think overall this book would be good for a middle schooler who doesn’t fully understand gender identity and is maybe questioning themself. my sister doesn’t read otherwise i would make her read this.
