The Craft of Love by E.E. Ottoman
4.0

I read this in one sitting and it was such a gentle romance between a trans silversmith and a bi quiltmaker. I haven't read a lot of historical books that focus a lot on craftsmanship but I loved that this one did, and that their relationship started through mutual professional respect and admiration.

I appreciated that it addressed political subjects like cotton produced by slavery, abolition and working women's rights. It was also incredibly gentle on queer issues, though there was mentions of Benjamin's mother not letting him be himself, all the alive characters surrounding the MCs were understanding of their queerness, and I loved that.

I don't think it was intentional but both characters, especially Benjamin, read as aspec in some ways, and even if it's not quite *rep* I always appreciate these kind of characters in romance because it makes it easier for me to relate and to feel "safe" in a genre that's not always kind to aspec people.

Everything I've read by this author has been super enjoyable, so I couldn't recommend his work more.
