Ruthless Empire by Rina Kent

why do all my favourite characters always get the worst books? cole you underwhelmed me… WASTED POTENTIAL. i’d like to erase this version of cole from my mind rn cos this isn’t the cole i’ve loved and waited the entire series for, it was good but i had higher expectations. 4 stars just cos i can’t bear to give him any less as he’s been my fav throughout. considering he was by far the most intriguing character, i feel like there was so much more she could have done with his character than this. she set it up so well but then it came off underwhelming. he was just aiden 2.0 and i wanted him to be a more unique character than he ended up being, he was just as toxic and manipulative which i wasn’t expecting from cole. it ruined his whole character for me because he came off as very surface level as that’s all she really focused on. i hate to say i much preferred his character in every book but his own.

again the plot also let me down, absolutely nothing happened until 85% of the way through. however, the plot twist was probably the best of the entire series. the plot twists/ endings of these books have saved them because the rest has been mediocre. i have a love hate relationship with this series. it’s been so hit or miss, yet i’ve eaten it up? i feel like it had a lot more potential because the plot twists and ideas were there, but it just fell flat in the end. i didn’t connect with half the couples sadly but i love the characters none the less.
