I listened to the audiobook, which was nicely narrated.
I really liked the romance and the parts of the book that focused on the astronaut training program and Joan’s AS-CAN cohort. I struggled to care about the family drama and the tension with Barbara. And someone on Reddit described the Frances storyline as *being trapped in a conversation with a parent who is monologuing about how uniquely special and brilliant their child is*, which is exactly how I felt too.
The book pretty much lost me onceJoan finally got to go on a mission only to discover that her maternal feelings basically made her allergic to being in space 🙄. I was tempted to DNF at that point, and though ultimately I did end up listening to it all the way through, I never really got past how infuriating that was.
