A Game of Love and Betrayal by Elayna R. Gallea

5.0

Rating: 5/5 Penguins
Quick Reasons: I come to you once again with my heart absolutely SHATTERED; this read is exquisite; delicious purple prose; Ryker is life; I NEED to know what happens next; un-put-down-able

HUGE thanks to Elayna R. Gallea and R&R Book Tours for the title! My review is voluntarily written and in no way impacted or altered by this gesture.

Fae might not have the senses of vampires, but he could pick her out of a crowd, regardless. She smelled like a crisp evening and night-blooming roses. He'd never been one for flowers before, but now, he wanted to be surrounded by them daily for the rest of his life.

This read was entertaining, fast-paced, steamy in all the BEST ways, full of drama and intrigue, and absolutely AMAZING. Stepping into this world was almost as if I fell asleep and straight into a dream suddenly--the characters practically leaped off the page, the story unfolded before me with ease, and the race to the finish was more like a TOPPLE over the ending. Elayna R. Gallea's prose is a fine mix of purple prose and realistic, world-building expertise. This story relies upon character AND world equally, a beautifully crafted spell that left me NEEDING more (good thing this is just book 1 in the series, right?!)

While I would not call this a life-ruining read, it is VERY much a gorgeous title to dive head-first into. The characters and their motivations are beautifully realistic, weaving a fine line between "overzealous" and "not nearly suspicious enough." This book plays with the idea of "guilt vs innocence" in a way that will leave you guessing AND tug at the heartstrings. Elayna R. Gallea penned a masterpiece with this one, Penguins...and I cannot WAIT to see what the next book in the series brings us.

"Focus, Brynleigh!" Zanri barked. "Rule number ten?"

Brynleigh closed her eyes and ran her tongue over her fangs. She took a deep breath and forced the words out of her dry mouth. "Once the game has begun, losing is not an option. The only alternative to winning is death."

I highly recommend this read to lovers of vengeance dating turned fated mates romances, romance reality shows like "Love is Blind," and all things magic/paranormal. This read will have you reeling, trying to solve the mystery before the time runs out, BEGGING for it all to not be true...and cheering at the very end. The game has begun, Penguins...will YOU win, or die fighting for your heart?
