⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Ronan, Corwin, and Helia are back! This time they are heading back to the sea, to Ronan’s home after a letter from her mother urged her to return. The sirens are at war with the people of Offen, and things are getting a bit deadly, so the king wants Ronan to use her voice to save them.

This is another great peak into Ronan’s morality and how she doesn’t let anyone change that. She stands up for what she believes in, refusing to cave to the king’s demands, while also helping her people. It’s a true struggle to navigate, and she handles it well, especially with her loved ones by her side.

It is also an interesting character study in a way. Seeing Ronan back in an environment she hasn’t been in for over a decade forces both her and the reader to remember why she left in the first place while also experiencing the emotions that come with returning to a place that was once home. Watching her walk through her feelings and remembering how she once was is a pleasant journey to be on, even if it isn’t under the best circumstances.

I read the first book in the series, Memories of Salt and Stone, and then read this one, so if there are any references to the second book, Memories of Blood and Bone, they went right over my head. However, there are two characters that I hope make appearances again in the series.
