Home Before Dark by Riley Sager

5.0

this was my first book from the author, and i went in thinking that this would be a silly little ghost story, but i was so wrong …

the book wasn't fast-paced, and when it comes to that, i always seem to have a problem because i can't get into it or stay concentrated, but that wasn't an issue with this one. from the first page on, i was into the story. it was gripping and scary, and it left me yearning for more.

i loved how we got two narratives, one from what maggie experiences now and one from her father's book when she was younger. it made the whole story even more absorbing.

the only thing that i have to complain about is that i was let down a little bit by the ending. i wish that this would have stayed a ghost story. i desperately needed a ghost story to stay a ghost story, but that is just my personal preference and has nothing to do with how the author handled the ending because it doesn't make me change my 5/5 star rating.
