This series is growing on me. With each book, Campion's character is developed further.

The central mystery is complex and satisfying. A lot happens off stage, and we are left in the dark too a large extent of how Campion comes to understand what is happening, and what he is doing during his absences. So the reader gets a perspective more like there other protagonists in the story. This device is similar to how we learn about Sherlock Holmes' solutions, but with less detail provided at the end.
