Dune Messiah by Frank Herbert
3.75
A good epilogue to Dune. Sometimes I feel like either I don't understand what these books are trying to say. On the one had you have a literal prophet who makes the choices he does because it will keep humanity alive in the future, choosing the best possible path to take (the one where humanity does not go extinct). On the other hand, the author says that in order to do this, the actions Paul takes leads to the death of trillions of lives, and even includes a direct comparison to Hitler. Despite this seemingly damning comparison, he continues to write Paul as a hero for t he rest of this epilogue. Maybe I just missed something, but I think he is muddled on what he is trying to say about Paul and other messiah like figures.
