Hot Streak by Beth Bolden

4.0

Beth Bolden knows how to write a sports romance that really pulls me in and Hot Streak was no exception. Jackson and Connor’s story was a little slow to start, but once I was in, I couldn’t read it fast enough!

Jackson Evans has been playing in the minor leagues for years, bouncing from team to team after his really short stint in the majors. He’s a really talented catcher with a knack for teaching his pitchers some control, which is exactly why he’s traded to Raleigh, to get Connor Clark focused and ready for his next step. Jackson was burned in the past for his sexuality, so he keeps things professional on the field and in the locker room, not really letting people in but just trying to enjoy the game he loves for as long as he can play it.

Connor Clark is a hotshot young pitcher who’s not only easy on the eyes but has a heck of an arm that he can’t quite control all the time. He’s cocky and flirtatious, though some of that is used to hide the insecurities that run through his head constantly about his abilities and the pressure on him to succeed. But, he’s persistent - when he sees something (or someone) he wants, he makes it his mission to go after it with everything he has.

When Jackson gets traded to the Rogues, Connor isn’t excited to see him…a new catcher that won’t let him get away with ignoring his calls during games. Despite a rocky start, they figure out that they’re good for each other on the field and off even though the chemistry between them is unexpected on both sides and totally new for Connor. I liked them together a lot and enjoyed seeing how they navigated all the changes and revelations that came their way throughout the book, some well and some not well at all. But I ultimately wanted to know a little more about them outside of the baseball field and wanted to see them connect on a more personal level, not just about the sport they both love or the physical side of things.

Overall I really enjoyed this one and would love to see Beth Bolden write some more sports romances with crossovers into her football teams - the Tristan and Wade cameos made the smile!
