His Royal Highness by R.S. Grey
3.0

I am really torn on how to rate this one. If I had to, I would probably place it around 3.5-3.75 stars (dang Goodreads and their limiting rating system).

His Royal Highness was SUPER cute. I absolutely love R.S. Grey's writing and I know that it will immediately pull me out of a reading slump (which is exactly why I picked this one up). It's fast-paced and leaves you wanting to just read "one more page" before putting it down. That's how I finished this so quickly.

My favorite thing about this was how nostalgic it made me. It's wholly based on two Walt Disney World cast members and that is a sure-fire way to steal my heart. As a former cast member, it was really fun to go back into this world and I loved all of the small things that Grey put in there that you wouldn't think about. Like The Underground and even the Subway in the cafeteria (I spent way too many breaks eating turkey sandwiches). I also loved the setting of it being in an amusement park - it gives you a really good sense of space.

My biggest gripe is Whitney. She spent 8 years pining over her mentor who "left her" and NEVER GOT OVER IT. I mean, sure he's hot and you had a connection, but that doesn't mean that you have to completely ignore yourself in the process. I know that is part of her character growth because she felt abandoned by her parents and then abandoned by Derek, so she internalized the hurt, but I just couldn't stop rolling my eyes.

I also had a few problems with how possessive Derek was over Whitney, especially when they weren't "together." Even at their first day on set together, he was being unfriendly and threatening towards Ryan and really any guy that looked at her and it just felt creepy. And they kept referring to certain things as "theirs" ("my shoulder," or while they were intimate, just little things like that bother me).

Overall, I really enjoyed this one. It was a fun trip down memory lane and now I just want to be back in my happy place.
