The End of Eddy by Édouard Louis
2.0

I wanted to really love this book but was left feeling flat, maybe that’s why more people aren’t talking or recommending it?

I identified with a lot of the strife that the protagonist went through in his childhood. Not only battling the relentless bullying but the internal hatred and homophobia only to project it to the world! Truly exhaustive behavior!

Anyway aside from the identifying with the above I felt this book just didn’t quite wrap up the way I wanted to. There didn’t seem to be any great redemption for the character and who was this Tristan who appeared out of nowhere right at the end?

It also felt that the protagonist would possibly spend the rest of his life never truly fitting in or being happy with himself whilst in a constant cycle of people pleasing. His family, his school peers both in high school and drama college!

It was a quick read but didn’t in any way move me, it’s a store that has been told so many times and in better ways than this!
