Those Girls by Chevy Stevens

3.0

3 sisters are on the run and things continue to get worse and worse. At the very beginning of the story we learn that one of the sisters has shot their father and in order to avoid jail, foster care and getting split up they go on the run. When their truck breaks down and a couple of small town locals offer to help out, the girls find themselves in an even more horrifying situation. It can be difficult to read so make sure you look up content warnings (there are many). There’s more information in the full synopsis on the back of the book but I didn’t know the events that transpired after that and I honestly don’t think you need to either. Just know that this book is dark, gritty, and fully goes there. It’s super suspenseful and will keep you on the edge of your seat. The only drawback for me personally was it needed to be a little bit faster paced to truly make my heart sink. I felt like the gaps in between the horrible things allowed me to compose myself rather than letting the dread really build up.
