I have mixed feelings about this book. The plot is pretty compelling, with a surprising ending. But a lot of the writing, particularly in the first few chapters, is quite bad. The author hasn’t mastered “show, don’t tell.” I kept wondering where was the editor? A strong edit could have made this so much better.
The main character, who is the narrator, is not very likable. She is a terrible reporter, a bit self-absorbed and very immature. But maybe that’s realistic for her age and life experience. Maybe you can like a series without liking the main character - and hopefully the character will grow throughout the series.
Although the cliffhanger ending wasn’t unexpected, I’m kind of ready to jump for it and pick up the next book.
